What is a Sworn Translation?

A sworn translation is produced by a translator officially registered with the Ministry of Justice, Sri Lanka. It carries the translator's stamp, signature, and registration number — making it legally valid for submission to any embassy, immigration authority, or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It is the only type of translation accepted for official purposes in Sri Lanka.

Why Sworn Translation is Required in Sri Lanka

Embassies require it

Australian Home Affairs, UKVI, IRCC Canada, and all Schengen embassies require translations by a Ministry of Justice registered sworn translator.

MFA attestation requires it

The Sri Lanka Ministry of Foreign Affairs will not attest a document without an accompanying sworn English translation.

Immigration authorities require it

Informal translations — from bilingual friends, uncertified agencies, or Google Translate — are rejected. Only sworn translations carry legal validity.

Overseas universities require it

UK, Australian, and Canadian universities require sworn translations of O/L, A/L results, degree certificates, and academic transcripts.
